High Street Names 2 More Restaurants to Lineup
Amber Lester
Two eateries specializing in sub sandwiches have
signed up for spots at the High Street development
in Williamsburg.
Subway and Firehouse Subs will join neighboring
restaurants Five Guys and Movie Tavern in December.
In August, High Street developer Dan Aston signed
a lease with Plaza Azteca, a popular Mexican restaurant
chain with 10 locations throughout Hampton Roads.
Kilwin’s ice cream parlor, a Lee Nails salon and
a bank are expected to take space in the development.
The new location will be Subway’s seventh in
Williamsburg. The fast food franchise sells submarine
sandwiches, salads and single-serving pizzas.
Since 1965, Subway has opened 31,827 locations
in 91 countries, according to its Web site. The
Subway in High Street will have a 1,338 square-foot
space.
Firehouse Subs specializes in hot subs, heated
with a steamer rather than a microwave. The creators,
brothers Robin and Chris Sorensen, chose the firehouse
theme as a tribute to their father, who retired
as a Combat Captain in 2004. According to their
Web site, the Sorensen family has “more than 200
years of public service as firefighters. It is
a theme that is personal to us, but is appealing
to people of all ages, and is embraced in every
community.”
Firehouse Subs, founded 14 years ago, has more
than 350 restaurants in 19 states. The restaurant
has 23 locations in Virginia, but the Williamsburg
location will be the first on the peninsula. It
will be 2,364 square feet.
Since opening earlier this year, High Street
has only had two operating businesses – Five Guys
and Movie Tavern. The site plan for its Shops
at High Street shows six buildings designated
for restaurants and six designated for retail,
two of which have over 11,000 square feet of space
divided into smaller units. |
