Williamsburg Trolley is Here
Posted Date: 8/19/2009

The Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (WATA) announces the inaugural running of The Williamsburg Trolley on Thursday, August 20, 2009.

The Williamsburg Trolley offers a new, inexpensive, and fun way to travel to shopping, dining, and entertainment destinations in the Williamsburg Area. The Williamsburg Trolleys have a classic trolley look: colorful red and green with yellow pin-stripe detailing and a brass bell on the outside, with brass railings and wrought iron supported wooden seating on the inside. In addition, the trolleys have modern features like bicycle racks over their classic cow catchers, air conditioning, and full handicapped accessibility. The trolleys also have the capability to run open-air with no windows on good weather days.

The Williamsburg Trolleys will run along their route from Merchants Square, to Williamsburg Shopping Center, High Street and New Town seven days a week with an emphasis on evening service.

Monday - Thursday 3:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Friday & Saturday 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Trolley routes will consist of two thirty-minute round trips between New Town and Merchants Square with Williamsburg Shopping Center and High Street in between. Trolley 1 will start from Legacy Hall in New Town and travel through High Street, to Williamsburg Shopping Center on Richmond Road then to the Prince George Street stop at Merchants Square. Trolley 2 will leave from the Prince George Street stop at Merchants Square, stop at Williamsburg Shopping Center on Richmond Road and travel through High Street to the Legacy Hall stop in New Town. Trolley stops are indicated on the route map.

As a part of the inaugural celebration, the Trolley Service will be free for one month through September 20, 2009. After that the fare will be $.50, with half-price fares for seniors. Area middle and high school students and students of the College of William and Mary simply have to show an official school ID card to ride the trolley.

Information about the Williamsburg Trolley is available on line at www.williamsburgtransport.com, or by calling WATA Headquarters at 757-220-5493 Ext 200, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
